FCI - Five College Policy on Cross-Registration

A description of the privileges, responsibilities, and policies for students participating in cross-registration (interchange).

Understanding of Student Access and Conduct

It is the philosophy of the Five College Consortium institutions that whenever possible Five College students should be afforded the same privileges and responsibilities as home campus students regardless of which campus they are on, except where prohibited due to policy or practical considerations. Student movement among the campuses should be as open and seamless as possible, and students should be able to think of the five member campuses as a single community with which they may engage, understanding that such engagement comes with responsibilities.

If a student violates the rules or policies (including requirements established via Title IX and other local, state, and federal policies) of a campus they are visiting, they are subject to that campus’ disciplinary procedures. In addition, students violating the policies or rules of a campus they are visiting may also be subject to their home campus’ disciplinary procedures.

Five College Policy on Cross-Registration

Cross-registration (Interchange) is open to students in good academic standing who are eligible to enroll on their home campus, with any restriction on that registration understood to be extended to cross-registration. Students found in violation of this policy may be unenrolled from cross-registration during the registration process or at any point during the semester in which the course is taken. Exceptions to the policy may be granted on the mutual agreement of the provosts at the student’s home and (intended) host campus.

Implementation of Cross-Registration Policy

The offices of the provost, student affairs, and registrar are responsible for identifying students who are or become ineligible for cross-registration and for sharing that information with one another, with their counterparts on the other campuses, and with the FCI director of academic programs. It is the responsibility of the home campus registrar’s office to block new interchange requests from students ineligible for cross-registration during pre-registration and add/drop, and to disenroll ineligible students from classes in progress.
